This is the pairing most first-time Tanzania travellers end up booking, for good reason: the northern circuit’s wildlife density followed by genuine, unhurried beach time is a hard combination to argue with. Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater cover the safari half; Zanzibar, a short flight from Arusha via Kilimanjaro or direct routing, covers the rest.
The crater alone – an intact volcanic caldera with some of Africa’s highest wildlife density per square kilometre – justifies its own day, and this itinerary gives it one rather than treating it as a stopover.
Park fees and rules on the Tanzanian mainland are set by Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA).
